The face of money laundering and money laundering investigation is changing. Now, every analyst, detective, and agent must at least understand the basics of the Internet online monetary transactions in order to be effective. While the traditional methods of money laundering are still being employed, new and evolving Internet and technology-based methods are rapidly becoming the method of choice. From training to communication to facilitation of money laundering, the Internet is a panacea for the active or aspiring entrepreneurial criminal.

This one day (8 hour) course is designed specifically for the active analyst, detective, or agent. The material is presented in a clear and understandable manner by a working detective that has conducted investigations of online money laundering. The presenter uses humor and case examples to keep the material interesting and relevant. Students with any level of familiarity with the Internet and computers will find this course beneficial.

Instructor:

The course is instructed by Charles Cohen, who is the principle member of Cohen Training & Consulting, LLC. Chuck's formal education includes a Masters in Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University, and an undergraduate degree from Indiana University with a double major in Criminal Justice and Psychology. He is a Lieutenant serving the Indiana State Police, where he has been employed for fourteen years. He is currently the Commander of the Special Investigations and Criminal Intelligence Sections. In this capacity, Lt. Cohen is responsible for the cyber crime, white collar crime, vehicle crime, and crimes against children units along with overseeing the department's overt and covert criminal intelligence function. He is cross-designated as a Special Deputy United States Marshal sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Division.

Before his current assignment, Chuck spent five years assigned to the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Indiana, where he conducted federal and state political corruption, organized economic crime, and cyber crime investigations. In the past, he has been assigned to various specialized investigative and enforcement assignments.

Chuck speaks nationally on topics including the implications of online social networks in criminal investigations and criminal intelligence gathering, cyber crime, online fraud, money laundering, corruption investigation, and the investigation of skilled criminal offenders. He is an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington, where he teaches Foundations of Criminal Investigation.

Chuck was a member of Office of the Director of National Intelligence Summer Hard Problem Program 2008, studying "3D Cyber Space Spillover: Where Virtual Worlds Get Real."

He is a published author, including peer-reviewed material and the cover article for the March, 2007 Police Chief Magazine. Chuck was recently featured on the cover of the National White Collar Crime Center's Informant magazine. He was a subject matter expert for a Fox nationally syndicated show regarding criminal activity in online dating sites and for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's national news regarding criminal activity in Virtual Worlds.

Lieutenant Cohen has collateral duties and training in areas including: hostage/crisis negotiation, vehicle crash reconstruction, defensive tactics instruction, and intermediate and chemical weapons instruction.
